When we hear people speaking about LED monitors, we imagine a screen composed by many little LEDs. All this belongs to the future!
Presently, technology is proposing to us something simpler than this, even if advertisings seems to promise something different.
In this kind of panels there are leds, this is true, but they are not in the front: they are placed in the posterior part, and their job is only the light production. They have been put here in place of the fluorescent lamps, so that the thickness is reduced.
For this reason, it would be more correct to speak about backlit LCDs, because the true LED technology is still in process and it will be ready within some years. It's about oLED (organic LEDs) many little LEDs that are to be "attached" to a stiff support or a flexible one.
